Part of our The Xiegu G90: The Complete Guide.
I run Ham Radio Deluxe on all my HF radios for logging and CAT control, and the G90 is no exception. It’s not quite as plug-and-play as my Icom or Yaesu radios, but it’s a solid connection once it’s set up correctly.
What You Need
A USB cable from the G90 to your computer, the correct USB-serial driver installed, and Ham Radio Deluxe’s rig control module. If you’re also running digital modes through this same connection, a Digirig or similar interface handles the audio side separately from CAT.
Radio Selection and Port Settings
In HRD’s rig control setup, select the correct Xiegu model, match the COM port to what your driver assigned, and set the baud rate to match what the G90 expects. Getting the baud rate wrong is the single most common reason CAT control fails to connect on the first try.
Confirming the Link
Once connected, HRD should show live frequency and mode readout that tracks the radio’s front panel in real time. If it connects but frequency doesn’t update, double check that nothing else, like a digital mode program, has already claimed that COM port.
Why Bother for a Field Radio
Even though the G90 mostly lives in a field bag, running it through HRD when I’m at a desk or a semi-permanent field setup means frequency and mode get logged automatically instead of typed in by hand. For a radio I move around bands on quickly, that automatic logging saves real time.
